Eindhoven restaurant tips

Restaurant tips eindhoven

Lazy Chipmunk asked for Eindhoven restaurant tips. So here it is!

I have visited quite a few restaurants in Eindhoven, but that was before my Lazy Pig Passion era. So I don’t have any stories about them (yet). Here is a quick list which comes into mind. Prices are per person.

Rodeo (30 euro)- The best steaks I have ever eaten in a restaurant. Take a mixed grill so you can try more things. I usually take the tenderloin and lamb chops combination.

Giornale (35 euro)- This place serves Mediterranean dishes. They encourage sharing dishes. I had their tenderloin and truffle pasta and it was mind blowing. Blog post coming soon!

Trattoria Margiare (30 euro?)- Good Italian food. Quite busy, reserve beforehand.

Hong Kong (15-20 euro?)- Good authentic Chinese food. All the Chinese parents go here now to eat Chinese. There used to be two good dimsum places, but they are gone 🙁

King Thai (20 euro?)- Recommended Thai place from a Nepal friend. Love the photo on their website.

Cooks (30 euro)- Interesting cafe/bistro food. Dutch/French casual food. It was good.

De Meulen (Oirschot) – Fancy pancy French food, but oh so good. It is quite expensive (50-70 euro), but then you get the good stuff.

Umami by Han (50 euro)- Chinese food in a French style jacket (small fancy bites). The food tasted good, but at a ‘normal’ Chinese restaurant you get more food and it also tastes good. Sometimes even better…This place is for people who like fancy dining with good service. I personally prefer the rustlehustle and fast service of an authentic Chinese restaurant where you get the food fast so you can enjoy the food ASAP, nomnomnom…

That’s it for now. Have a lovely day!

Strijp-S ~ Hip and happening in Eindhoven

Eindhoven is slowly becoming a hip, design and technology place. Especially Strijp-S has grown to a fun, relaxing and hip area. There are one-of-a-kind design stores in Urban Shopper, artists selling their beautiful items in pop-up shops. There is also a community workplace for freelancers at Seat2Meet. Here you can meet interesting people and learn from them. I believe Strijp-S also has studios for rent where people can work. I am not sure though, but on their website you can find all the things they offer. Also the “Vershal Het Veem” (food market) is amazing and delicious.

Lazy Penguin and I filmed a day at Strijp-S to show you a glimpse of what Strijp-S has to offer.

We filmed on a Sunday, so some things were closed. We have only showed you maybe 30% of what Strijp-S have to offer. Every 3rd Sunday of the month there is the Feelgood Market at Strijp-S. A market filled with food, design products, people and ‘gezelligheid’. It’s usually more crowded on those days.

Below are some ‘old’ photos of the Urban Shopper and of the FeelGood Market. Lazy Penguin still had long hair in those days.

Visit Stijp-S!

The next time you are in Eindhoven, don’t forget to visit Strijp-S. It’s a 3 min train ride from Eindhoven. Or you can walk about 22 minutes from Eindhoven Central Station.

Eindhoven: The Happiness Café

A sweet little cafe has popped up in Eindhoven:

First impression

At first impression it looks cute with the logo and hart on the window.
Inside it looks so nice and hip:

Lovely designed menu card hanging in the back of the counter. People get all the time to watch. The counter has a lot of things to look at: ingredients for salads, mugs to buy, coffee maker in the back. And quite a lot of people are working behind the counter.

Chairs outside are made of wood and are also used inside. When the rain was pouring, the tables and chairs were inside. When the sun came out, the tables and chairs were put outside.

My little brother and I ordered a smoothie… It wasn’t very special, so that left me a scar.

Everything is designed so nice, so I was a bit disappointed that the beverage was only “meh”. Hopefully the other food is nice.

Some research

Pretty card with things they have to offer

Their website is designed very well. Pretty and informative. I really like the drawn pictures on their salad page:

The Happiness Café offers some unique things: breakfasts, juices and detox stuff. You don’t find those a lot in the Netherlands. Their goal is to offer the people healthy, fresh, pure food. To make your body feel better and make you happy. Nice goal.
