Hello Foodlover, long time no see~
Some time ago in February, Lazy Penguin and I visited three Chinese restaurants to eat pulled noodles. We filmed this foodventure to introduce you guys to three awesome noodle dishes!
Enjoy!
The noodles
Cate Dak 不了秦

At the first restaurant, Cate Dak, we ate biang biang noodles. Which is one of my favorite noodles, because it is so broad and thin, so that every bite has the perfect ratio of dough and sauce. In China they say the noodle is as broad as a belt, so you can put it around your waist. I just love the chewy texture and the fragrant taste of oil-poured-spring onions, hot pepper flakes and the special soy-vinegar sauce. It’s an addicting and savory taste.
Cate Dak serves all kinds of traditional dishes from Xi’an, Shanxi Province.
Urumqi Restaurant

The second restaurant was Urumqi Restaurant. Originally our plan was to eat La tiao zi (啦条子), handpulled noodles, but we changed our mind and ordered a magnificant Big Plate Chicken, Da pan ji (大盘鸡) and lamb skewers. Big Plate Chicken main attraction is actually the chicken with a peppery, spicy, intense flavored sauce. And under the chicken they put broad-pulled noodles, which soaks in that sauce. My favorite part are those soaked noodles. Savoury, salty, spicy, numbing, sweet, aaah.. just so good. Just thinking about it makes me happy. Lamb skewers is something that we grew up with, so it was nice to taste it again. They grilled it on coal, which made the meat so smoky. Delicious.
Urumqi further serves traditional food from Xinjiang.
Yellow River Lanzhou Noodles

The third restaurant was Yellow River Lanzhou Noodles. Here we ate Lanzhou beef noodle soup. Thinly or thickly pulled noodles in a clear beef broth. This dish is a bit lighter in flavors and it’s more soothing and warm. The other two noodles were like a firework party in your mouth and this one is more soft and gently for the tongue. But still a bit intense with the hot oil. What I didn’t show in this video, but what I also enjoyed a lot, was the small side dishes that you can choose. All kinds of vegetables, seasoned just like in China. I was really enjoying the taste of China.
As the name already says, Yellow River serves typical Lanzhou pulled noodles, famous all over the world.
All in all, three very nice and authentic Chinese restaurants in Rotterdam. I had a lot of fun making this video and eating the noodles. The next video will be something new, either some animation-recipe or a dessert video. I haven’t decided yet.. I will let my inner-lazy-pig decide. See you in the next post! 😀
