So this is Swiss food

I still haven’t figured it out actually. Because no one said: “Yes! What you are eating now is typical Swiss food!”

And I didn’t really did any research before the trip. So let’s start the researching now.. What is typical Swiss food, and have I eaten it while being there?

From Expetica I learned that Swiss food is influences by French, German and Italian cuisine. Typical Swiss dishes are:

We ate a lot of sausages and fries. We could find that everywhere. Even on the mountain Üetliberg. We didn’t really eat a lot of cheese or dough stuff. There were a lot of pretzels in stalls and in little shops:

We also had a dessert from Mac Donald’s: bounty smoothie (it had a strange aftertaste). And they have 3 sizes for a Mc Flurry.

Well, the dishes I ate in Zürich were:

I can’t really say we have really eaten Swiss food. Only the sausages. That might be because we wanted to eat cheap food. All the food was so expensive compared to the Netherlands T-T. 30 euro for Chinese food (NL: 15 euro) or simple ‘house’ food (NL: 20 euro).

There were two restaurants which impressed me: a fast food restaurant called “Sterner Grill” where they sold grilled stuff like sausages and burgers. And a very nice Italian restaurant, a bit like Vapiano, but better. I will write separate blog posts for these places.

  • Interesting post. Just published my 10 Must Eats and Drinks in Switzerland on the blog – have a look. The Swiss are greatly influenced by their neighbours when it comes to food but they have a way of making it their own. Cheese is big and often a major part of most meals in some way. Cheers
